News From Your County Councillor
Road and street lighting improvements
by Paul Smith on Monday 1 February 2010

Councillor Paul Smith has said that resurfacing of the B600 and the islands from the car wash through to the old Viyella site will take place in the near future, probably before April, at a cost of £60,000. The County Council has also allocated £40,000 for resurfacing at Pye Bridge Industrial Estate as the condition of the roads in that area has been bad for some time, with ruts and potholes. Councillor Smith has been raising these issues for some time with the County Council Highways Department, and is pleased that the problems are going to be resolved as it is important for the roads around the industrial estate to be kept in good condition.£36,000 is to be contributed to street lighting improvements on James Street and Windmill Rise by Wimpey. This was requested as a contribution to the community alongside funding for the schools and recreational facilities. The money is now available and the improvements should start soon.Residents have been raising concerns about the lack of a pedestrian crossing on Leabrooks Road, and Councillor Smith confirmed that the County Council has agreed to a pedestrian count taking place to ascertain how many people have to cross the road, to establish if a pedestrian crossing can be justified. The count will take place sometime in early March between 7 am and 7 pm, and residents will no doubt see this taking place.
