1960's Transport In Somercotes
by Parish Council on Saturday 26 May 2012

Mr Donald Miles has provided these pictures, which he says were both taken circa 1961.

He tells us the burgundy coloured vehicle pictured on Cemetery Road was a Messerschmidt Cabin Cruiser and it belonged to Roy Henson, who he tells us married Ann, the daughter of Cyril Grundy, who had the motor cycle shop in the background of the picture (now the café).  Donald and Ian Conway are standing by the vehicle.

Donald is pictured on the Norton motorcycle, and tells us the lorry in the background of the photograph was of one of the first lorries owned by George Shipman, and the lorry is facing a building which was the Everlastic factory, having previously been the old Labour Hall, and which is now Mayfield Furniture Shop.
