The banner was created by a group of ladies from the Somercotes Ladies Group, including Margaret Fullwood, Kathleen Smithurst, and June Walker (who made the cauliflower!) to mark the Millennium.  A great deal of work went into the banner, and it really is a “work of art”.  It hangs in the Lounge of the Somercotes Village Hall on Nottingham Road, and all who were involved in the making of it must be very proud.  Contributions were made by other members of the parish, including the schools and Ann Burnham of the Mother’s Union.  Local scenes such as Pennytown Ponds are represented on the banner, and also shops and businesses.    We’re sure you will agree that everyone who worked on the banner should be very proud of themselves, and it’s good to see it hanging in the Village Hall for everyone to admire.
