SOMERCOTES ALLOTMENTS

Jim Spibey Memorial Shield – Allotments Competition 2013

“GROW YOUR OWN”

This year has been an excellent year for allotment plot holders who have had some excellent gardens and bumper fruit crops. In the current economic climate there has never been a better time to “Grow Your Own” and it’s an excellent way to relax and unwind. The rewards of the labour of plot holders have been recognised by the Parish Council who now held an Annual Allotment Judging Competition for the best kept allotment – The Jim Spibey Memorial Shield Competition was a in recognition of the dedicated gardeners who worked so hard.

This years winner was Mr Mike Dobson (Bridle Lane) with joint runners up Mr A Brimson (Birchwood Lane) & Mr S Youngs (Bridle Lane) and it was even a joint 4th place -  Mr M J Clewely & Mr T Waring (2012 winner) both from Birchwood Lane Allotments.

Certificates of Merit were presented to all those nominated for the competition
Cllr Lyttle said that “I would like to thank everyone who was nominated for the competition in memory of Cllr Jim Spibey, the efforts they have made on their allotments and the high standards of the entries. I would like to thank our independent judge, Chris Beal, who judged the competition on our behalf.”
