Somercotes Community Singers are performing an afternoon concert in Somercotes Village Hall at 2pm on Saturday 22nd October.
Entitled ‘New and Old, Funny and Bold’ the concert will reflect the choir’s 70th anniversary and also the 70 years of the Queen’s reign.
The programme includes songs from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, Verdi’s Speed Your Journey, South Pacific and A Chorus Line.
It also includes songs by Queen and Elton John bringing the programme up to the final decade.
Katie Jinks, choir chair person, comments: “We thought we should choose music which covers past and present and hope the audience appreciate the varied programme.’
The Choral Society’s Musical Director is Neil Farley of Belper and the accompanist is John Hobbs of Risley.
The choir will be supported by Shirland Training Brass Band.
Tickets at £9 are available from Pam on 01773 602335.
The choir practises at Swanwick Methodist Church every Tuesday evening at 7.15pm and welcomes new members, particularly men. For further information on membership contact David on 07949 322717 or Katie on 07963 514679.
