Full-time worker Susan Curry and volunteers recently opened The Faso Charity Shop on Somercotes Hill, stocking everything from clothes to kitchenware and books to jewellery, to raise funds for a poverty-stricken African nation. 

The Faso Fund is a project which brings relief and resources to a cluster of villages to the east of Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso.  The project now incorporates an eight-acre site, a secondary, junior and infant schools, a baby orphanage and a maternity unit and a clinic.  

Susan, who visited Africa about four years ago, says “our money goes ten times further in Burkina Faso.” 

The opening times for the shop are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.
